Who We Are: woman owned farm, family supported
Our Why:
We want everyone to have access to high quality local foods that were sustainably raised. We do not use synthetic inputs and raise and grow things as close to the way nature intended as possible. A huge part of providing access to quality food is to teach people methods for sustainable agriculture they can practice for themselves in their everyday lives.
My husband James and I are first generation farmers, so everything we are doing is a huge learning experience. I remember when James and I were dating and I said “ I’m gonna be a pig farmer, how are you gonna feel telling your friends that?” Of course he said “I’m fine with that” and laughed. At that point he probably didn’t think I was serious, that is just something people say to throw you off right? But I did it! We did it! James has been more than along for the ride, he has taken on a majority of the tough stuff that proved to be too much for me. Most importantly he keeps me from quitting… Farming is hard y'all! We keep at it because we like to believe that we can change the world with the way we grow, produce, and consume foods.
The Family Bee’s-ness is my (Crystal’s) leap of faith to live out my dreams, fight for what I am passionate about, and give our children the life they deserve.
I am a huge believer that food controls our health. I have seen this play out in my life in so many ways. I have had my auto-immune disorders completely under control through my diet and I have wreaked havoc on my body through poor food choices as well. This is a battle for me.
Our goal on the farm is to grow and raise food that supports health; health of the people who consume it, and the health of the environment. This is why we use a regenerative agriculture model. We do not use any artificial inputs on our Farm, every animal and garden we grow ties into another to create optimal conditions.
We offer a variety of classes, farm experience and products on our farm and invite you to come learn, grow, connect and change the world one tomato at a time with us!
